Biography
Kyungok Song is a partner at Yoon & Yang LLC, where her main areas of practice are financial and capital markets, as well as corporate advisory matters.
Ms. Song is a policy-based finance expert with over 15 years of experience. She has worked at the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), the Office of the President, and the United Asset Management Corporation (UAMCO), an organization dedicated to the restructuring of insolvent companies. She has also served as a Legal Advisory Member to the Financial Services Commission, a Member of the Capital Markets Investigation Deliberation Committee of the Securities and Futures Commission, and as the Head of the Key Projects Team (Funds) for the Public Institution Management Assessment at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
While at the FSS, in connection with the 2011 savings bank crisis, she was responsible for restructuring insolvent financial institutions—implementing prompt corrective measures for failing savings banks and reorganizing intermediary savings banks (including approvals for major shareholder changes and mergers). Her responsibilities later expanded to include on-site inspections of securities and asset management companies, coordination of investigations into unfair trading practices in the capital market, and other financial supervisory matters across relevant industries and sectors. Notably, Ms. Song was the first woman from the FSS to be dispatched to the Office of the President, where she was recognized as a policy expert. While serving as an administrative officer in the Office of the Legal Counsel, she exclusively provided legal advice to economic and financial government agencies.
After leaving the FSS, Ms. Song served as Head of Compliance and Audit at United Asset Management Corporation (UAMCO), handling compliance and audit matters related to the restructuring of distressed companies. She later led the Policy Finance Team at Shin & Kim LLC, overseeing restructuring projects driven by government-owned banks and policy-based financial institutions. She is currently an adjunct professor at Sogang University’s Graduate School of Business (MBA), where she teaches innovative finance.
